Botanist Intern

Position Description:
This internship will provide exposure to the Forest Service, and provide advance training in a recreation resource program including all lands, recreation wilderness, and developed sites. The position will begin in early November, and continue full-time for 52 weeks.
 
Major duties will include, but not limited to:

  • Learn local floral and wildlife habitats
  • Participate in plant surveys for endangered/threatened/Sensitive species
  • Weed inventory and treatments
  • Learn basic NEPA skills for Categorical Exclusions
  • Data input
  • Write inventory reports
  • Participate in wildlife surveys for endangered, threatened, and/or sensitive wildlife species
  • Conduct wildlife habitat inventory and treatments

Desired knowledge, skills or abilities:

  • A degree in botany or a similar field
  • Clear writing skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly

  • Basic knowledge of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, and spatial analytical tools)

Location:  Hiawatha National Forest (Gladstone, MI)
Compensation: $12/hour
 
Prior to starting this position, a government security background clearance will be required.
