Game on! HBCUI interns compete in a scavenger hunt while exploring Historic Washington, D.C.
Each team was given a mission and a knapsack that contained all of the materials they needed. Their mission: complete a series of tasks in the HBCUI Scavnger Hunt. Their goal: to win the big prize which included cash and of course, bragging rights. HBCUI interns from Tuskegee, Baltimore, Boston, and Hampton strategically formed teams and crafted their team paraphernalia with fabric, scissors, and markers (keyword here: creativity). As soon as the three teams were decorated they set off to tour the historic sites in Washington, D.C. Throughout the competition, the group visited the Mary McLeod Bethune Council House, Historic U Street, and the National Museum of American History. Tasks in the scavenger hunt tested their ability to observe and recall historical facts from the sites they visited throughout the day. Along the way, the teams had opportunities to win bonus points by collecting pictures of eco-friendly objects: recycling bins, a freshly picked flower, etc. To insert a bit of humor into the quest, the teams were also challenged to take funny pictures with the Washington Monument and of their team receiving a dance lesson from a stranger. With lots of learning and laughing it was an all around good time! Check out our Flickr gallery to see for yourself: HBCUI Scavenger Hunt 2013.
